Table Interpretation Practice

Table interpretation questions give you two linked tables. Usually the first table gives a code or category, and the second table turns that code into a cost, rate, season, duration, or other final answer.

The Rules Every Table Interpretation Question Uses

The source papers include airport parking, hotel rates, courier rates and insurance tables. The contexts change, but the solving moves stay the same.

🔗 Rule 1: Link table 1 to table 2

Use the first table to find the category, code, group or zone. Then carry that value into the second table.

Example: Terminal 2 plus Meet and Greet gives Zone C, then Zone C gives the parking fee.

↩ Rule 2: Reverse lookup when the price is given

If the question gives a cost, search the second table first to find the matching code or duration.

Example: £51 in Zone C matches a 1 day stay.

➖ Rule 3: Compare like with like

For "how much more" or "savings" questions, find both values before subtracting.

Example: £106 for a week minus £75 for 3 days gives £31.

✕ Rule 4: Watch totals and multiples

Some questions ask for weekly, annual, ten-parcel or combined costs after the lookup is complete.

Example: £30 per parcel for ten parcels becomes £300.

How to Solve Table Interpretation Questions

Three useful moves: direct lookup, reverse lookup, and combining two linked-table answers.

Easy

1. Make a Direct Lookup

Question: How much more is paid for a 1 week stay than for a 3 days stay using the exact same Meet and Greet parking at Terminal 2?

Parking Type Terminal 2 Terminal 3 East Terminal West Terminal
Short Stay - Zone D Zone D -
Meet and Greet Zone C Zone C Zone C Zone A
Valet - Zone A Zone B Zone B
Economy Zone B Zone B Zone A -
Parking Zone 1 day 2 days 3 days 1 week
Zone A £23 £35 £47 £78
Zone B £37 £49 £61 £92
Zone C £51 £63 £75 £106
Zone D £65 £77 £89 £120

Worked Method

Step 1: Meet and Greet parking at Terminal 2 is in Zone C.

Step 2: In Zone C, 1 week costs £106 and 3 days costs £75.

Step 3: £106 - £75 = £31.

Tip: Always write down the code or zone before moving to the second table.

2. Work Backwards from a Price

Question: A customer pays £51 for Meet and Greet parking at Terminal 3. Which duration do they fall into?

Parking Type Terminal 2 Terminal 3 East Terminal West Terminal
Short Stay - Zone D Zone D -
Meet and Greet Zone C Zone C Zone C Zone A
Valet - Zone A Zone B Zone B
Economy Zone B Zone B Zone A -
Parking Zone 1 day 2 days 3 days 1 week
Zone A £23 £35 £47 £78
Zone B £37 £49 £61 £92
Zone C £51 £63 £75 £106
Zone D £65 £77 £89 £120

Worked Method

Step 1: Meet and Greet parking at Terminal 3 is in Zone C.

Step 2: Look along the Zone C row in the fee table.

Step 3: £51 appears under 1 day.

Tip: A given price usually means reverse lookup: start from the second table and work back to a label.

Classic Trap

3. Keep the Same Hidden Category

Question: Suppose a 1 day stay pays £37 for Terminal 2. How much would a 2 days stay be charged for East Terminal with the identical parking type?

Parking Type Terminal 2 Terminal 3 East Terminal West Terminal
Short Stay - Zone D Zone D -
Meet and Greet Zone C Zone C Zone C Zone A
Valet - Zone A Zone B Zone B
Economy Zone B Zone B Zone A -
Parking Zone 1 day 2 days 3 days 1 week
Zone A £23 £35 £47 £78
Zone B £37 £49 £61 £92
Zone C £51 £63 £75 £106
Zone D £65 £77 £89 £120

Worked Method

Step 1: In the fee table, £37 for 1 day means Zone B.

Step 2: In Table 1, Terminal 2 in Zone B is Economy parking.

Step 3: Economy parking at East Terminal is Zone A.

Step 4: In Zone A, 2 days costs £35.

Tip: "Identical parking type" means carry Economy across to the new terminal, not Zone B.
