Time Tracker Practice

Time tracker questions use horizontal bars to show when people were present. You read the start and finish of each bar, compare durations, and count who is present at one exact time.

The Rules Every Time Tracker Question Uses

The papers ask about arrival, leaving, duration, longest or shortest time, and how many people were present at a specific moment.

⏱ Rule 1: Bar length is duration

Subtract the start time from the finish time to find how long someone stayed.

09:50 10:30 40 mins

Example: 09:50 to 10:30 is 40 minutes.

⬅ Rule 2: Earliest start is furthest left

The person whose bar begins furthest left arrived or started first.

09:45 09:50 Paloma Bianca starts first

Example: Paloma starts at 09:45, before the swimmers who start at 09:50.

➡ Rule 3: First finish is the leftmost end

To find who left first, compare the right ends of the bars.

10:05 10:10 Paloma Bianca ends first

Example: Paloma finishes at 10:05, before Bianca finishes at 10:10.

🔎 Rule 4: Finish time is not counted

If a person leaves exactly at a time, they are not counted as present at that time.

10:10 Bianca Cynthia Kenji not counted counted

Example: Bianca finishes at 10:10, so she is not counted at exactly 10:10.
