Position-based logic puzzles measure step-by-step analytical deduction. Mastery comes down to 4 core principles:
Start with any person whose exact position is given. Some questions give a direct anchor, while others require you to choose a clue chain and work relative to one person.
Example: If Fred = Level 4, all other levels can be calculated as offsets from Fred.
Translate each phrase into arithmetic for that scale. Floors and car-park levels use above = add, below = subtract. Race ranks use ahead = subtract, behind = add. In the theatre-row puzzles, the generated row scale uses in front = add and behind = subtract.
Example: Bianca = Fred (4) - 3 = Level 1. In a race, 2 places behind 1st means Position 1 + 2 = Position 3.
Once a person's position is derived, plug that value into later clues that reference them. This is essential when a question has no direct numerical anchor for every person.
Example: "Camila is 4 levels below Peter (5)" → Camila = 5 - 4 = Level 1.
List all 5 calculated positions. Look for the two people with identical position numbers and match that pair to the correct option.
Example: Camila (Level 1) and Bianca (Level 1) share Level 1 → Answer D.
